Magdalo Reps. Gary Alejano and Francisco Ashley Acedillo are among the early birds in filing measures, which seek more protection and benefits for soldiers.
One of the measures seeks to increase the combat duty pay of the soldiers. “This early, we want to set the tone of Magdalo’s legislative policy in clear and unequivocal terms: that we will fight for the cause of our brothers and sisters in the armed forces. It is high time that their voices be heard in the halls of Congress,” Alejano said.
Acedillo said that the men and women of the armed forces deserve more from the government as they put their lives on the line, especially those assigned in armed conflict areas.
The measure seeks to increase the combat duty pay of AFP officers and enlisted personnel from a minimum of 5 percent to a maximum of 25 percent of the base pay of a Private.
“This measure, if enacted into law, would increase the pay of our soldiers who are in the frontlines of the wars our government chose to fight. While it is still my belief that the courage and valor our soldiers display on the battlefield cannot be measured by any monetary standard, an increase in compensation would help in boosting their morale,” Alejano said.
